Mum of twins for the first time - which pram is best?

I am now 16 weeks pregnant with identical twins!  the shock has subsided....and the twins are growing perfectly...now I am on a mission to make sure that our little babies are going to be safe and sound with prams, cots, highchairs etc etc!!  I welcome anyones opinion or advice on my current dilemma - which pram is best for twins?  I have had the majority of mums of twins saying that nothing beats a mountain buggy, but have also had a few lately highly recommending the City Elite, mainly because of how easily this folds up and can be lifted with alot less effort than the mountain buggy.  I felt that the city elite was much smoother, but I liked the sturdiness of the mountain buggy.  Im at a loss....please help?

    Hello

Congrats on your twin pregnancy!  How exciting.  Will these be your 1st children?

I can only comment on the mountain buggy.  I got it when the twins were 3 months old as I had bought a huge twin bertini pram 2nd hand which had swivel wheels, suspension and everything which was far too heavy to lift in and out of the car!  As a walking pram, the MB is fantastic.  You can push it very easily and even with one hand and the children are comfortable in it as it has sling seats.  It will go over every bump easily and steers really well with the two in it even up till they are 4 years plus so thats a fantastic bonus.  I loved it for this.  The things I didnt like about the pram was that the hood of the pram is quite flat and so when my girls began to get taller, say from 3 onwards, their heads used to touch the hood.  Also, I must admit that I found the fact that they have to sit right back in the pram all the time quite annoying after a while.  As they began to turn into toddlers, they wanted to sit more upright a lot of the time to see out and the pram restricts this a bit as they naturally have to lean back.  I think I would have preferred a bar in front as well although i know that the newer ones have this so maybe the design is a bit better now.  The other thing is that I personally found the MB quite awkward to get into the back of our car.  On mine, there was no clip to lock the pram together, so it went down flattish but the wheels used to spin around when I tried to get it into the car and it tried to open so I always had a bit of a battle and found it hard.  It didn't help that I had to turn it around once in the car as it wouldnt fit in exactly.

I think if I had twins again, I probably would get a different pram, one that is easier to fold up and get into the car, and one that sits up a bit more.  I have an 11 month old now and I have a silvercross traditional pram and I love it as it has all the features that the mountain buggy didn't!

Good luck with whatever you decide.  Its so hard.  I ended up with having 3 prams in the end which drove my husband mad.  We also bought a maclaren stroller as well and this was a really good alternative as an easy fold up, in and out pram for those short trips or holidays.

Hi firstly Congratulations !!! Having twins is such an amazing experience !!!

We have the Adventure Buggy pram (similar to mountain buggy). It is great it has slings like the MB and a bar at the front and we also got the toddler seat attachment (toddler seat goes on the top near handle bar, which we have found great for our three year old) Much easier to shop with 3 out of four restrained !!!!! lol

It folds pretty flat, although we do have to take the wheels off to get it in our car, but they come on and off without much bother. As far as weight it is probably the same as the Mb but I have got ujsed to it and once you hold it in the right place it isn't so bad to put away.

    Hope that helps !!

    Yay to you, so exciting.

I have the Phil and Teds buggy which I love but the tray underneath doesnt fit much in. I never really folded this down as my car was too small for this pram. Great for areas without footpaths.

I also got the Steelcraft umbrella stroller to fit in the car. Easy to fold down, not as easy to push around as the wheel dont swivel as easily as my jogger pram. Good storage on back and underneath pram.

One thing to look at is the height of the pram, my husband found the steelcraft hard as he is tall and couldnt walk behind it comfortably.

    Have fun shopping!

we opted for peg perego aria- light weight and fits through all the doors i have encountered- also fits well in the car. so far  i have not needed to go off road but i think small wheels would be some problem if i decided to do so:) however the paths are very good wher we live and walking is not a problem

I have the valco twin it fits through a standard door and is great to steer and you have the option of adding a toddler seat in the future if you have another baby (I have triplets so needed a 3 seater) . It is pretty heavy to lift in and out of the car and my girlfriend with twins and she has one heavier sturdier twin pram and one maclaren fold up stroller for in and out of the car.

Initially for high chairs I had bulky ones that reclined but went to ikea stackable ones once the boys were a bit bigger. The association also has some multiple books for loan that have good lists of what to get and what you need when expecting multiples.

    good luck!

    Cheers,

I have a double Mountain Buggy.  Got it 2nd hand to go walking for my girls (child#2 and #3)... they are 3 years apart but #2 was only a shorty so they both fitted in it comfortably.  When I found out I was having twins {after I got up off the floor that is!  Tongue Tied }  i thought it would be fine... BUT I found it really hard to get in and out of the car and ended up with a huge bruise on my leg from hoisting it in.  It's not too heavy, just really awkward.

I had DH put it in the car once... he went straight to the baby store and brought this...

LOL Wink  Much easier though I still have to take the wheels off to get it in the back of our 4wd when the back back seats are up... but they come off and go back on super easy.
