    Toilet training twins! HELP!

My g/b twins have just turned 3 and are not yet toilet trained!  I have tried several times over the last few months, but figured they just weren't ready. I have tried potty, toilet, lots of different seats, bribes etc but don't seem to be making much progress! My son has been better at using the potty over the last 2 weeks for 'wee', but won't 'poo' til he has nappy on (for sleep). My daughter flatly refuses to sit on potty or toilet regardless of bribes, so she is still in nappies all the time.

I am at a loss!! Would appreciate ANY tips/advice!  I feel that they should be trained by this stage as most other 3 yr olds seem to be!

Hi Clare .. Unfortunately I don't have any useful advice that I can offer yet as I'm in the process of toilet training my g/b twins too (2 1/2 years old).  I think I missed a good opportunity a few months ago when they were showing signs of readiness, but nonetheless, we have been trying for the past couple of weeks.  I have two potties available to them inside at all times, and then they also have access to the big toilet as well.  It's been a lot of hit and miss, pardon the pun, but they'll happily do a wee/poo on the potty, and then next time, they've done it on the loungeroom floor or wherever they might be !  I do have books sitting by the potty which my girl loves to read while doing her business, whereas my boy likes me to sit and chat with him !  I've heard of some kids being trained within a few days, but as much as twins tend to encourage/compete with one another (monkey see, monkey do), we are definitely not going to be one of those "three days" stories unfortunately.  I haven't been game enough yet to take them out to the shops/playgroup etc without a nappy on so I suppose this is sending mixed messages to them and maybe delaying their progress, but I'm not quite ready to do the whole toilet thing at the shops yet (or clear up a mess in the shopping aisle ... x 2) Smile

Good luck with it all, and I shall keep my eye on this post in case someone else can share some helpful tips.

    Cheers

    Re: Toilet training twins! HELP!

Hi There.. I have also been watching this post with interest as I toilet trained my gg twins (kind of, they still poo in nappy overnight) over Christmas (2yrs5m). It was a hard slog and took about 2 weeks pretty full on. All I can suggest that worked for me was absolutely cold turkey with knickers no nappies or pull ups while up (I know absolutely terrifying!).  I told them that the nappies were needed by a friend with a new baby and they really clung onto that. My girls go to daycare a day a week and I just sent them with knickers for that too. It was gross, it was messy but we got there! If it took any longer I don't think I could have persisted for a break- through. I was very close to backing off totally, which I think you have to do if it is clearly not happening. Just remember, all kids use the toilet eventually. I'm sure in the future this stage will seem like a very distant memory (hoping?) :-) Good Luck! Let us know how you go
